Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with Nokerguly Atagulyyev, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan. The parties discussed existing economic relations and future cooperation plans between the two nations, with a particular emphasis on transport, logistics, energy and foreign trade. During the meeting, it was noted that Georgia welcomes the active partnership with Turkmenistan in the fields of logistics and transport and supports the development of uninterrupted freight and passenger traffic.
The meeting also addressed the issue of increasing cargo flows toward Georgian ports.
The Turkmen side expressed interest in investing in and developing warehouse and logistics infrastructure in the vicinity of Georgia’s operational ports. To this end, a visit by a Turkmen delegation to Georgian ports is planned to inspect the relevant infrastructure.
The Georgian side underscored the development of safe, reliable, and competitive transport routes and expressed readiness to continue cooperation with Turkmenistan in both bilateral and multilateral formats. It was also noted that one of the most effective frameworks for discussing trade and economic initiatives is the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, with its next session scheduled to take place on 6-7 May in Ashgabat.
During the meeting with Mariam Kvrivishvili, it was decided that a Georgia-Turkmenistan Business Forum will be organized in the near future.
The discussions also covered projects concerning railway modernization, the East-West Highway, the Anaklia Deep Sea Port and the new Tbilisi Airport.
Furthermore, the parties deliberated on expanding cooperation in the energy sector. The Georgian side expressed its readiness to provide active assistance for projects involving the transit of Turkmen gas and oil through Georgian territory to Türkiye and, subsequently, to European countries.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development, Genadi Arveladze and Tamar Ioseliani; the Director General of Georgian Railway, Lasha Abashidze; and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Turkmenistan, Konstantine Sabiashvili.
