Mariam Kvrivishvili Discussed Prospects for Deepening Energy Cooperation Between Two Countries with Minister of Energy and Environment of Greece

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, held a meeting with the Minister of Energy and Environment of Greece, Stavros Papastavrou. During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for deepening cooperation in the energy sector between the two countries, including in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency. It was noted that the Georgian side welcomes the strengthening of cooperation in the energy sector between Georgia and European countries and is ready to contribute to European energy security through the Black Sea Submarine Cable Project.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that today Georgia plays a special role in terms of regional connectivity, and several strategic infrastructures pass through Georgia and the evidence of this includes the energy projects connecting Azerbaijan with Turkey and the EU, as well as the Baku-Supsa pipeline, which connects to Europe via the Black Sea.

The meeting participants also discussed important issues regarding large-scale regional infrastructure projects, including the Black Sea Submarine Cable and the Green Energy Corridor. The Georgian side highlighted one of the government’s main priorities, which is the maximum utilization of Georgia’s rich hydro resources and other renewable sources, which makes the country even more attractive for foreign investors.

Along with Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Inga Pkhaladze, participated in the meeting with Stavros Papastavrou in Athens. The Ambassador of Georgia to Greece, Levan Beridze, also attended the meeting.
