Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, together with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, participated in a meeting with the business sector dedicated to discussion of the issues related to the higher education reform.
In her speech, Mariam Kvrivishvili emphasized the importance of the reform and the Ministry’s involvement in the process of its implementation. The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development noted that the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development must ensure a macro-assessment for the sectors, taking into account the demands of the labor market.
“Close cooperation between the business and education sectors is essential to ensure the precise balance of labor market supply and demand” – Mariam Kvrivishvili stated.
“It is important to implement the right policy in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, so that each university or educational program accurately reflects the demand that is directly proportional to the needs of the business sector” – Mariam Kvrivishvili explained.
Furthermore, according to the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, vocational education is one of the priority areas that should be given great attention, especially in such sectors as information, hospitality, transport, logistics, etc.
“The Prime Minister repeatedly emphasized today how important it is to generate a new workforce, and vocational education truly accelerates this process” –the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated.
Along with the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, the Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia Givi Mikanadze, the Chair of the Parliament’s Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee Mariam Lashkhi, the Chair of the Economic Policy Committee Shota Berekashvili, and the Head of the Government Administration Levan Zhorzholiani, also attended the meeting with the representatives of the Business Association.
