Draft of the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan was the subject to the discussion during the meeting in the Techno Park. The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Irma Kavtaradze and the officials of Energy Efficiency Center, Center for Sustainable Development and Policy also attended the meeting.
The Action Plan was prepared within the technical support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, through the cooperation of the international and local experts with the government agencies. The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.
Signing the EU Association Agreement and becoming a member of the energy community, obliges Georgia to maintain the closer ties with the European directives on energy efficiency and now these directives set out certain standards for arranging the buildings in compliance with the energy efficiency standards. Energy Efficiency Action Plan, in regard with the required directives, is based on the energy, industry, transport and construction sector energy saving standards. The plan also envisages studying of the energy consuming sectors in terms of the energy-saving potential, and studying the development stages of each sector, also to account the existing and planned projects for the further review. They will be distributed on the basis of the energy efficiency action plan with specific measures.
“We have asked the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to meet with the representatives of the 4 electricity sectors in order to provide all of these companies and businessmen with what measures should be taken in this direction in the future. The aim of the meeting is to determine the relevant parts of the action plan together, so that the process will be painless for business and the government in terms of meeting its obligations,” – Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Irma Kavtaradze noted.
