In order to mark the 100th anniversary of the occupation of Georgia by the Soviet Russia, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia has approved a draft stamp in honour of the national heroes who fought heroically in an unequal struggle and sacrificed themselves for the independence of the homeland. As a result, a postage stamp with the image of the first woman - Maro Makashvili, the national hero of Georgia, will be put into circulation in the nearest future.
Georgia’s national hero, the Red Cross nurse, died in February 1921 at the outskirts of Tbilisi in a battle against the Soviet Russian troops.
