Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to Georgia, Vesselin Valkanov.
Deputy Minister Genadi Arveladze also attended the meeting.
Economic relations between Georgia and Bulgaria were discussed at the meeting with special attention to such priority areas as bilateral trade, transport, communications, etc.
It was stressed that Bulgaria firmly supports Georgia’s integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures. Moreover, Bulgaria is the fourth EU member state (Romania, Lithuania, Latvia) to ratify the Association Agreement between the EU and Georgia.
Conversation focused on the growth of trade between Georgia and Bulgaria. In 2021, Bulgaria entered the top ten trade partners of the country. The same trend continued in 2022 since the trade turnover is increased by 63%, and exports by 85%. According to these indicators, Bulgaria is the fourth country where Georgia exports the most.
When speaking about the deepening of bilateral economic ties, the fact that 140 companies with Bulgarian capital are operating in Georgia was emphasized. It was highlighted that Georgia welcomes the development of cooperation between the businesses of the two countries and the attraction of investments from Bulgaria.
Land and sea transport was named as another priority direction, where there is also a great potential for cooperation between the countries. The role of Bulgaria as an important partner country in terms of connectivity was particularly emphasized.
