“Georgia remains firmly committed to its choice of political association and economic integration with the European Union and implements a wide range of reforms aimed not only at deepening the  trade relations with the European Union, but also at promoting convergence with the European Union’s standards in various fields,” – Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili stated in his speech at the ministerial panel discussion of the Eastern Partnership countries in Prague.

Vice Prime Minister thanked the representatives of the Czech government and partner organizations, the host of the forum, for the opportunity to discuss the ways of deepening economic and trade cooperation between the Eastern partners and the European Union. As Davitashvili noted, the realistic prospect of the EU membership is a strong motivation for our country and its citizens. Levan Davitashvili highlighted that this is a new benchmark and Georgia is strong in this decision.

“We are fully aware that the European perspective comes with huge responsibility to ensure highest political, economic, and legal convergence with the EU. I would like to reaffirm our strong determination to fulfill our commitments to our common agenda with the EU. We strongly believe  that our efforts will be rewarded, and Georgia will be granted the candidate status as timely as possible. We continue effective implementation of the AA/DCFTA. The new Association Agenda for 2021-2027 serves as a key basis for our ambitious reform action plan. To succeed in fulfilling our reform agenda, we count on the EU’s continued assistance and support. Now, as part of the enlargement package, we are looking forward to taking full benefit of the Pre-Accession Instrument (IPA),” – Davitashvili stated.

Vice Prime Minister emphasized that Georgia remains open for engaging in the further review process of the EaP with all involved and interested parties and contribute to revitalizing this policy initiative so that it serves the purpose of setting and reaching concrete, practical and mutually beneficial targets under one EU umbrella. Davitashvili noted that the participants need to work on common projects and initiatives of regional importance that will further facilitate economic relations and business ties.  

Within the framework of Levan Davitashvili’s visit to the Czech Republic, meetings with the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, the Vice President of the European Investment Bank and the representatives of the Czech-Georgian Chamber of Commerce are also scheduled.
