Historic Chateau Mukhrani Palace was officially opened in the village of Mukhrani. Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili made a welcoming speech at the opening ceremony. He thanked the Chateau investors for their work and noted that such investments will contribute to the dynamic development of wine tourism in the country.
Vice Prime Minister highlighted that Chateau Mukhrani is known today as a high-quality winemaking center, whose name is associated with the restoration of the winemaking traditions of the Kartli Region. “Chatto Mukhrani has been playing a special role in Georgian winemaking for years and is distinguished by the production of high-quality wines, but today the rehabilitation process of the historical palace was completed and it was officially opened. This is probably one of the most impressive places of wine tourism in Georgia, with an outstanding historical heritage,” – Levan Davitashvili noted.
Vice Prime Minister highlighted that today winemaking and wine tourism are inseparable. Wine tourism in Georgia is developing very successfully, and in this regard it is of great importance to create such centers of tourist attraction as Chateau Mukhrani. “I am sure that it will be a popular place for both Georgian and foreign guests. Today we have witnessed the result of investments of several millions. We think that such investments will contribute to the dynamic development of wine tourism in the country,” – Vice Prime Minister said.
Investor of Chateau Mukhrani, Frédéric Poulsen, and the world-famous specialist in the restoration of historical interiors, Juan Pablo Molyneux, who led the restoration process of the 120-year-old palace, also addressed the audience at the opening ceremony.
The idea of restoring the palace and Mukhranbatoni estates emerged in 2002. Since then, the palace built by Ivane Mukhranbatoni in the 19th century in the style of a French chateau and the restoration of the economic infrastructure was being implemented gradually. In 2016, the restoration of the palace itself was launched. Today, the palace and its infrastructure, planned by French and Georgian architects, cover 16 hectares.
At this point, about 300 people are employed in the Chateau Mukhrani complex.
The official opening of the palace was also attended by the representatives of the Government of Georgia, Diplomatic corpus and local authorities.
