Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Irakli Nadareishvili participated in the presentation of the research of the Enterprises Demand on Skills prepared by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia within the framework of cooperation with the National Statistics Office of Georgia. Representatives of public agencies, business associations and donor organizations attended the meeting.
Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of the research findings in the light of the existing challenges and the cooperation of various agencies in this direction. He also touched upon the important activities carried out in the country in terms of attracting IT companies, which have already yielded results - the employment rate in the mentioned sector has significantly increased, as well as the capacity of local personnel has increased.
According to the research, 115 756 vacancies were announced in the last one year, of which 12% could not be filled. The study clearly demonstrated the imbalance between demand and supply and the challenge of work force with the required skills.
Irakli Nadareishvili noted that the government together with the private sector is implementing professional training programs, which are prepared according to the requirements of the local labor market. “The situation in the international labor market is changing, which also affects Georgia. Many professions that were still relevant 5 years ago are less important today. There are many new positions that definitely need skilled labor. It is a dynamic process. Greater flexibility of the retraining sector is important for the sustainable development of the economy,” – Deputy Minister commented.
The research was carried out using a quantitative method and the survey was conducted in 9500 enterprises selected from the database of non-financial and financial corporations operating in Georgia.
The presentation was followed by the interactive discussion.
