Starting December 1, WizzAir will increase the number of ships based at Kutaisi International Airport up to four. The airline will make direct flights between Kutaisi and Copenhagen twice a week. At the same time, due to the fourth based ship, frequencies will be increased towards four different directions.

“We are pleased that the negotiations that our team had with the WizzAir were successful. This year, we will have 4 WizzAir aircrafts based at Kutaisi International Airport. This will be an important factor in achieving the main goal of having more direct air access to various European airports and cities. This, of course, will have a positive impact on the arrival of European tourists in Georgia, strengthening of the tourism industry and on the revenues that our country will receive from this sector,” – Mariam Kvrivishvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated at a press conference dedicated to adding a new route by WizzAir from Kutaisi International Airport.

Deputy Minister assessed the statistics of number of international travellers to Georgia during the first quarter of 2023 and noted that Georgia hosted over 1 200 000 international travellers, which, according to Mariam Kvrivishvili, means that tourist visits to Georgia have been increased by 95% compared to 2019. “We see that the share of European tourists is quite growing in the tourism industry of our country. It is also important to highlight the role of the aviation industry in strengthening tourism and the economy in general. We continue to promote Georgia as a tourist destination. Our marketing campaigns are aimed at the correct positioning of Georgia in Europe and Gulf countries. Therefore, we expect that the current year will be exceptionally successful and outstanding in the tourism and aviation industry of Georgia,” – Mariam Kvrivishvili noted.
