Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who was on an official visit to Georgia.
First Deputy Minister Romeo Mikautadze, Director of the Georgian Energy Development Fund Jaba Khmaladze, as well as a group of businessmen who came to Georgia together with the Danish government delegation, also attended the meeting.
Priority areas of bilateral relations between Georgia and the Kingdom of Denmark, as well as cooperation in various regional formats were discussed during the meeting. The support of the Kingdom of Denmark in the direction of Georgia’s European integration was especially emphasized.
The main focus of the meeting was on economic cooperation in such important areas as transport and logistics, renewable energy, trade, tourism, etc. The fact that direct air traffic between Georgia and the Kingdom of Denmark will be launched from the end of 2023 was positively evaluated, since it will have a positive impact on bilateral economic relations.
Special emphasis was paid to cooperation in terms of transport and logistics. It was noted that there is a great interest in increasing the cargo turnover between Europe and Asia on the middle corridor passing through Georgia, for which it is important to develop the appropriate transport and logistics infrastructure. The Georgian side provided information about the important projects aimed at successfully overcoming this challenge, including the expansion of the Poti Port, the construction of the deep-water port of Anaklia, the modernization of the Georgian railway, etc.
Attention was also focused on renewable energy. The regional project, which will connect the energy systems of Georgia and the South Caucasus to the European Union through the Black Sea energy cable, was given a very positive evaluation. The parties also focused on deepening cooperation in the direction of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
In conclusion, the parties outlined the priority directions that will contribute to the further development of relations between Georgia and the Kingdom of Denmark in the future. It was emphasized that the opening of the Danish embassy in Georgia will have a positive effect on the deepening of cooperation between the two countries.
