Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Guram Guramishvili participated in the ministerial of the International Transport Forum (ITF), which was held in Leipzig, Germany. Speaking at the ministerial meeting, Deputy Minister spoke about the priority areas of cooperation between Georgia and the European Union in the field of transport.

About 1400 representatives of over 80 countries participate in the Ministerial. The main theme of this year’s summit was "Transport Enabling Sustainable Economies".

Guram Guramishvili noted that recently, cargo turnover in the transport corridor passing through Georgia has increased significantly, which is mainly caused by the situation in the region. According to his information, the Government of Georgia is actively working on the development of local transport and logistics infrastructure in order to meet this challenge. Guramishvili focused on individual projects, including the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, increasing the capacity of Poti ports, railway modernization as well as other projects, through which Georgia will be able to sustainably serve the freight traffic between Europe and Asia in the coming years.

Deputy Minister highlighted that in this context, the deepening of cooperation and harmonization between the transport systems of Georgia and the EU countries takes a special place, so that the cargo flows between Europe and Asia, through the route passing over Georgia, move without interruptions. He also emphasized the importance of regular maritime traffic between the ports of Georgia and the European Union, which will significantly contribute to the increase in the number of international cargo flows in the transport corridor of Georgia.

Guram Guramishvili also attached great importance to increasing cooperation in the field of land transport and noted that more transport companies registered in Georgia should have the opportunity to transport cargo to the territory of the European Union.

At the 2023 summit, Georgian delegation held bilateral meetings with the representatives of government and business officials from the transport and logistics sector. Georgian delegation met with the representatives of the governmental transport agencies of Romania, Mongolia and Latvia.
