Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Genadi Arveladze is leading the session of high-ranking representatives of the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation Program (CAREC) being held in Georgia this year.
Implementation of CAREC 2030 strategy goals, regional cooperation in trade, tourism, agriculture, finance and other sectors and development of transport and energy corridors – this is a shortlist of issues that high-ranking representatives of the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation Program (CAREC) discussed at a meeting held in Tbilisi on June 13-14.
“At the CAREC meeting, we will have the opportunity to take the initiative and raise issues of regional cooperation in such areas of economy as trade, transport corridor, energy security, tourism, etc. We are one of the initiating countries to sign Free Trade Agreement between CAREC member countries. Also, we support the development of joint projects and transport corridors in the direction of energy, the establishment of a joint management system of customs points, which will promote trade between the countries,” – Deputy Minister said in his welcoming speech.
“CAREC has a great potential to become a leader in the global transition to a green economy,” – Deputy Director General of Central and West Asia Department of the Asia Development Bank, Ms Xiaohong Yang. Deputy Director highlighted that regional cooperation is critically important in terms of the region’s transition to a green economy. Ms Xiaohong Yang thanked Genadi Arveladze for hosting the recent CAREC 2023event in Georgia at such a high level.
The CAREC program is a joint initiative of 11 countries and development partner, which aims to promote economic growth and poverty reduction in member countries. In 2023, Georgia is the chairing country of CAREC and within this framework, the country will host the CAREC Ministerial Meeting this November.
