First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Romeo Mikautadze, participated in the events dedicated to the Sustainable Energy Day.
Romeo Mikautadze awarded the school “Dea”, the winner of the Make Your School Energy Efficient awareness raising campaign. As Romeo Mikautadze mentioned in his speech, the campaign Make Your School Energy Efficient is one of the outstanding projects, since the raising of awareness from a young age, in this regard, is very important.
“We are implementing the project within the framework of the Georgia’s Energy Sector Reform Program. The project helps to develop appropriate habits. In many cases, children share their knowledge with their parents and encourage them to make energy-efficient decisions. Accordingly, the goal of the competition Make Your School Energy Efficient is to provide more information to the young generation, because they create the future of the country. It is important that similar competitions and activities for schoolchildren were held in the regions of Georgia and will be held regularly in the future,” – First Deputy Minister of Economy commented.
Within the framework of the campaign, three Tbilisi schools were awarded - they designed and implemented the most diverse, creative and mass activities during the energy efficiency awareness campaign. The 169th Tbilisi Public School and the 106th Tbilisi Public School were granted, relevantly, the second and third places. Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Mzia Giorgobian and Deputy Minister of Finance Ekaterine Guntsadze presented them with the certificates.
Within the framework of Sustainable Energy Day, other events were held in the Dedaena Park, namely, an exhibition of energy-efficient technologies and a demonstration of the operation of energy-efficient stoves, solar water heaters, solar panels, biomass boilers and other technological innovations. In addition to participating in these activities, any visitor had the opportunity to get information about briquettes and other energy-efficient materials. An energy-efficient transport exhibition was also held in the Park, where interested persons had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the characteristics of energy-efficient, green vehicles and get information about their advantages.
The awareness raising campaign, as well as the events planned within the Sustainable Energy Day, were carried out by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, with the support of the European Union and the German Reconstruction Credit Bank (KfW) and in cooperation with the company GOPA Intec, within the framework of the Georgian Energy Sector Reform Program.
