Passenger Flow at Georgian Airports Reached Pre-pandemic Level in 6 Months of 2023

“According to the data of the first six months of 2023, Georgian airports hosted up to 2 500 000 passengers which means that during the period of January-June, the passenger flow equaled the one of pre-pandemic level,” – Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili stated and explained, that the positive dynamics regarding the number of passengers in the country’s airports is the result of the truthful strategy and action plan.

“We were able to fully restore the passenger flow at Georgian airports - if we compare it with the data of 2019. Today, we have about 50 international partner airlines that provide direct air traffic from the international airports of Georgia to over 60 directions. This means that our country will continue to be one of the most desirable destinations for international travelers and tourists,” – Deputy Minister of Economy noted.

Data of the first six month reveals that Tbilisi International Airport served 1 566 251 passengers. The increase compared to the same period of 2022 is 35%. The airport reached 84% of the passenger volume recorded in the first six months of 2019. Similarly, there is a positive trends in the statistics of Kutaisi International Airport with 667 305 passengers, which is the 103% increase compared to the total figure of two quarters of 2022. In addition, the number of passengers served in January-June is 83% higher than the number of passengers received in the first six months of 2019. As for Batumi International Airport, it served 236 444 passengers. The increase is 9% compared to January-June of 2022, and the recovery compared to the first six months of 2019 is 96%.

Positive dynamics of passenger flow growth is observed not only at the international, but also at local airport of Mestia, Ambrolauri and Natakhtari.

“Current situation in terms of increasing and improving the passenger flow of both international and domestic airports, of course, contributes to the further strengthening of the aviation industry, as well as the tourism sector in the country,” – Mariam Kvrivishvili said.
