First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Romeo Mikautadze opened the event dedicated to the Energy Workers Day of Georgia with a welcoming speech. First Deputy Minister congratulated the employees working in the country’s energy sector on the professional day and thanked them for conscientious performance of their professional duties.
“Today, I would like to congratulate all the employees of the field, and first of all, those who are currently providing a stable, continuous energy supply for our country and its population,” –Romeo Mikautadze said.
The ceremony was symbolically held on the territory of the historical hydroelectric power station of Zahesi, which has been operating for almost 100 years. Representatives of the energy sector, government agencies and private companies attended the event.
Mikautadze noted that according to the data of January-August 2023, local production of electricity, as well as its export, reached the maximum of the same period of the previous years.
As noted by Romeo Mikautadze, 64 power plants have been built in Georgia since 2012, with a total installed capacity of 1209 MW, and investments amounting to 1,896 billion USD.
“This year is significant due to a number of factors since a record volume of export of the electricity was verified, as well as a record volume of generation - their indicator reached a historical maximum,” – First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development informed.
Romeo Mikautadze also noted that 102 contracts have been signed since 2022, which include 68 hydroelectric power plants, 11 wind and 23 solar power plant projects. It should be noted that since 2022, 13 hydroelectric power stations have been built in Georgia, and by the end of this year, at least 7 more hydroelectric power stations are planned to be accomplished.
First Deputy Minister also spoke about the highly efficient, largest thermal power plant project of 350-430 MW installed capacity in Gardabani Municipality. Submission of interest regarding the construction has already been announced. Calls for interest has also been announced for the new scheme for supporting the production and use of energy from renewable sources and the first auction, which was held for the acquisition of 300 MW of capacity. The projects received very high interest from the private sector.
Romeo Mikautadze emphasized the large-scale project of gasification of the regions of Georgia, as well as the development prospects of green hydrogen production in Georgia and the work carried out in this regard.
The event dedicated to the Day of the Energy Workers of Georgia ended with the awarding ceremony of the honoured employees of the field who were given certificates and symbolic gifts.
