Levan Davitashvili at Do IT with the EU New Project Opening Event

Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili participated in the event dedicated to the opening of the new project “Do IT with the EU”. The project will be implemented by the Innovation and Technology Agency of Georgia, with the financial support of the European Union. The goal of the project is to promote the development of the technology sector.

Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, Paweł Herczyński and the representatives of the IT sector, as well as the successful startups and partner organizations of GITA participated in the event.

Levan Davitashvili addressed the audience and spoke about the development of technology and innovation in the country, the importance of innovation and the knowledge-based economy. He thanked the partner organizations involved in this process, who have contributed to the formation of the ecosystem in Georgia for years. As the Minister of Economy noted, since 2014, the Government of Georgia has intensively developed the field of technologies and innovations, this sector has been declared one of the main priorities since then, and the Agency for Innovations and Technologies was established under the Ministry of Economy.

“Through the agency, the technology and innovation ecosystem development has significantly changed, developed and given a completely different impetus, which was also reflected in the numbers in the economy. For this, I would like to express my gratitude to the agency, its team and all the partners who have been building this ecosystem over the years and have contributed to this process, including the project participants. In our view, the economy of Georgia should be based on knowledge, and only the economy based on knowledge will be competitive and productive in the future,” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development noted.

The goal of the “Do IT with the EU” project is to promote innovation and the growth of the jobs in the IT sector of Georgia. Within its framework, during the 2-year time, with the support of the European Union, over 1300 citizens of Georgia will be trained in the most demanded and highly paid professions in the world market, such as cyber security, data science , Cloud services, project management and more. In addition, 1000 IT specialists will have the opportunity to obtain an international certificate, and 300 IT specialists will be given a unique employment opportunity to become competitive in the international market.

Current news and vacancies in the technological field were presented at the event. The invited guests had the opportunity to learn about the announced programs, meet representatives of the international IT companies and get more information about the available vacancies in the field.
