Statement of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia
17-07-2017

Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development always supports local industries, including the development of the local aviation industry, which is of outmost importance in terms of positioning Georgia as a transportation hub and attracting the tourists.

A number of significant measures have been implemented recently to support the local aviation industry:  internal aviation transportation and internal aviation works were freed from the VAT, while the fuel and lubricating materials used in the industry were freed from the tax on import, the excise tax and the VAT. This is significant facilitation, which contributes to the resource availability for the companies engaged.

Another clear example of state support is that upon the solicitation of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the 4 frequencies of Georgian company Georgian Airways were restored, which were suspended by the Russian Aviation Authority on July 15, 2017. As a result, the company has the opportunity to continue performance of its Moscow-Tbilisi direct flights in a regular manner.

The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development will continue to support local companies in order to ensure effective utilization of the economic potential of the country. In this regard, it is important to further support the local aviation industry, thereby facilitating Georgia as a transport and tourist hub. However, it is particularly important to protect the consumers’ interests. The Ministry believes that local companies will provide their consumers with appropriate quality and price of the services, taking into consideration the support provided by the state.
