Levan Davitashvili Met with EU Energy Community Director, Artur Lorkowski

First Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili met with the Director of the European Energy Union, Artur Lorkowski and the members of his delegation.

Deputy Minister Genadi Arveladze, as well as the Head of the Energy Policy and Investment Projects Department of the Ministry Jubo Turashvili, the Head of the Energy Reforms Department Ana Gogoladze and the Deputy Head of the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Policy and Sustainable Development Department Omar Tsereteli also participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the ongoing and planned reforms in the energy sector of Georgia, since the implementation of those reforms is an important part of Georgia's integration into the European Union. Attention was focused on such issues as the transitional model of day-ahead and daily markets, which is effective from July 1 of this year, as well as the separation of transmission system operators, the further harmonization of Georgian legislation with respect to the regulations provided for by the "Electricity Integration Package", etc.

It was also mentioned that next year Georgia will be the preceding country of the Energy Union, which is especially significant considering the fact that 2025 is the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Energy Union.

Participants of the meeting also focused on the Black Sea Submarine Cable project, which will connect the Georgian electric power system with the European one.

At the end of the meeting, it was noted that Georgia continues to fulfill its commitments to the European Energy Union in connection with the harmonization of the normative base of Georgia with the European energy legislation and the introduction of modern competitive market principles.
