Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Vakhtang Tsintsadze, participated in the 11th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council, which was held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The meeting was opened with a speech by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the participants were welcomed by the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Kadri Simson.
As Vakhtang Tsintsadze stated during his speech at the ministerial meeting, Georgia plays an important role in the region’s energy connectivity process. According to the Deputy Minister, Georgia has been an active participant in the Southern Gas Corridor development project since its inception and provides continuous political support to it.
“As a transit country for the Southern Gas Corridor, we are ready to ensure the reliable and uninterrupted transportation of hydrocarbons from the Caspian region to European markets. The Southern Gas Corridor is an excellent example of our joint efforts to strengthen energy security, diversify supply sources, and improve economic cooperation,” – the Deputy Minister noted. He also focused on other priority areas of energy policy, such as green energy, energy efficiency, and the development of new technologies, including green hydrogen.
According to Vakhtang Tsintsadze, Georgia’s energy strategy is fully in line with global sustainability goals, particularly reducing carbon emissions while ensuring energy security. The Deputy Minister stated that the Georgian government encourages attracting investments in the development of the country's renewable energy sources and transmission infrastructure, and is also actively involved in the implementation of projects of regional importance, such as the Black Sea underwater cable project. Tsintsadze said that this project, along with the Southern Gas Corridor, is an excellent example of the collective efforts of Georgia and its partner countries in achieving common goals.
The Georgian delegation at the 11th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council also included the General Director of the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation, Giorgi Chikovani, and the Georgian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Zurab Pataridze.
