Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with the UK Ambassador to Georgia, Gareth Ward.

Givi Davitashvili, Director of the LEPL Georgian Civil Aviation Agency, Tamar Ioseliani, Chairperson of the Supervisory Board of the United Airports of Georgia, and Levan Moseshvili, the company’s General Director also attended the meeting.

Discussions at the meeting focused on priority areas of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, including the tourism and civil aviation sectors. It was noted that the launching of direct flights between Georgia and Great Britain will elevate relations to a new level.

Mariam Kvrivishvili stated that the entry of British airlines – British Airways and easyJet – into the Georgian aviation market was a historic decision that gave new impetus to deepening trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. “In cooperation with both British airlines, we have launched targeted marketing campaigns in the United Kingdom. These campaigns will help increase awareness of Georgia as an attractive tourist destination in Britain, which will positively affect the dynamics of tourist visits from that country” – the Deputy Minister noted.

Mariam Kvrivishvili also emphasized that flights between Tbilisi and London are operating at approximately 90% capacity, with a significant portion of passengers originating from the United Kingdom. This, she noted, strengthens the government’s policy of tourism diversification.

Parties also highlighted that direct flights to London will contribute to deepening cooperation between other economic sectors, beyond tourism, sine both, Georgian and British business sectors have expressed significant anticipation and interest in this direction. Furthermore, the Deputy Minister pointed out that the direct Tbilisi-London connection has also activated an additional transit route to the USA.

It was noted at the meeting that Georgia’s Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, in conjunction with the UK Embassy, will direct additional efforts towards the further development of cooperation between the two countries.
