Levan Davitashvili Discussed Important Issues of Trade And Economic Cooperation Between Two Countries with Prime Minister Of Qatar

Levan Davitashvili, Georgia’s First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, met with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the Prime Minister of Qatar, to discuss prospects for developing trade and economic relations between Georgia and Qatar. This meeting took place within Davitashvili’s visit to Qatar.

“We had a very interesting meeting with the Prime Minister of Qatar” –Levan Davitashvili stated, - “We discussed cooperation in investment, and the prospects for collaboration in tourism and trade between our countries. Generally, Qatar and its government have a very positive disposition towards Georgia. I hope that high-level bilateral visits from both Qatar and Georgia will take place during the current year, which will further contribute to deepening trade and economic relations between our countries.”

Georgian delegation, led by the First Vice Prime Minister, participated in the Fifth Qatar Economic Forum. The forum was held under the patronage of Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and with the support of Bloomberg, bringing together over 2 500 global leaders from Gulf countries and around the world. As part of the Forum, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili, along with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Khvtisiashvili, held meetings with representatives from Gulf countries. According to Davitashvili, discussions focused on deepening trade and economic relations in various sectoral directions with both Qatar and other Gulf states.

It is noteworthy that an Agreement on Mutual Promotion and Protection of Investments has been in effect between the governments of Georgia and Qatar since 2022, creating additional initiatives to further facilitate investment flows. Another agreement covers issues of economic, trade, and technical cooperation.

“For us, cooperation with the Gulf countries in general, in terms of economy and investment, is very important. Qatar can also become a significant economic partner for Georgia — in 2024, investments from Qatar amounted to approximately 50 million USD, and we expect the volume of investments to increase even further in the future” - stated Levan Davitashvili.

As part of his visit, the First Vice Prime Minister also met with Faisal Al Ibrahim, the Minister of Economy and Planning of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The heads of the two countries’ economic agencies discussed prospects for cooperation. According to Levan Davitashvili, a formal platform for economic cooperation has already been established for this purpose, with the participation of businessmen from Georgia and Saudi Arabia.

“This issue is being monitored by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both Georgia and Saudi Arabia, and the Ministries of Economy from both sides are also involved. I believe that this platform can become a very effective instrument in the future for deepening both investment and trade relations” – Levan Davitashvili noted.
