First Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili met with the Hungarian Minister for National Economy, Márton Nagy, within the frames of the Georgia-Hungary intergovernmental summit. Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili also participated in the meeting.
Conversation focused on the priority areas of economic cooperation between the two countries. It was noted that the relationship between Georgia and Hungary is exemplary in the region and contributes to maintaining stability and peace. The parties highly praised the holding of the Georgia-Hungary intergovernmental summit, which will further contribute to bringing the peoples of the two countries closer.
The First Vice Prime Minister briefed his Hungarian colleague on Georgia’s economic trends and also provided information on current and planned large-scale infrastructure projects that will enhance Georgia’s cooperation with other countries in the region. A special emphasis was placed on the Black Sea submarine cable project, whose successful implementation will have a major impact on the region’s energy security, as well as promote the development of the renewable energy sector and increase inter-regional transit capabilities in this area.
Parties positively evaluated the cooperation in such important sectors as bilateral trade, transport and logistics, tourism, civil aviation, etc. It was noted that in recent years, both trade turnover and exports between the countries was increased. Productive cooperation in the civil aviation sector was also highlighted – in 2025, the Hungarian airline WizzAir transported the most passengers in the Georgian aviation market, thus being the leader according to this indicator.
The need of the promotion of cooperation between the private sectors of the two countries through more trade missions and business forums was also emphasized.
Following the meeting, during the session of the intergovernmental commission, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia and the Hungarian Ministry of Culture and Innovation, which aims to promote the deepening of cooperation between the countries in the fields of technology, research and innovation.
