Genadi Arveladze Meets with Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Haris Theocharis

Genadi Arveladze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, along with Nino Tandilashvili, First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, met with Haris Theocharis, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece.

At the meeting, the parties reviewed economic trends in Georgia and Greece, as well as priority areas for bilateral and regional cooperation.

The Georgian side expressed gratitude for Greece’s unwavering support of Georgia’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations. It was emphasized that Georgia continues to implement the agenda defined by the Association Agreement with the European Union.

It was also stated at the meeting that, with the aim of promoting the growth of bilateral cooperation, particularly trade turnover and sectoral cooperation indicators, and to enhance awareness of the export potential of both countries, the parties will exchange lists of priority commodity nomenclature. The parties also discussed the prospects of holding a joint business forum to bring Georgian and Greek business circles closer.

The importance of holding the next session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Technological Cooperation this year was also highlighted, during which priority issues of economic cooperation between the two countries will be discussed.

The parties paid special attention to cooperation in the green energy sector. It was noted that there is significant interest in Greece regarding Georgia’s green energy resources. Genadi Arveladze informed his Greek colleague about the Georgian government’s decisions aimed at attracting investments in the country’s energy sector. The parties also discussed the progress of the Black Sea submarine cable project, which will connect Georgia’s energy system to that of the European Union, enabling the supply of green electricity generated in the region to the EU.

At the end of the meeting, Genadi Arveladze invited Haris Theocharis to the Fifth International Silk Road Forum in Tbilisi.

The meeting took place in Athens, where the Georgian delegation participated in an event dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the European Energy Community.

The Ambassador of Georgia to Greece, Levan Beridze, also attended the meeting.
