Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, within her working visit to Turkey, held a meeting with Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey, to discuss priority areas for cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector.
Mariam Kvrivishvili assessed the meeting as very productive, noting that discussions were held on the possibilities of deepening the existing friendly and partnership relations between the two countries.
As it was highlighted during the meeting, energy is one of the main directions of economic cooperation between Georgia and Turkey. Mariam Kvrivishvili emphasized Georgia’s more than productive cooperation with Turkish investors in the field of green energy – in the last 5 years alone, the investments of Turkish companies’ in Georgia’s energy sector exceed 150 million USD. As the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development noted, Georgia and Turkey have even greater potential for cooperation in this direction.
“We outlined new plans on how to develop existing power transmission lines according to a common schedule to increase electricity transmission capacity between the two countries. This, of course, will strengthen trade opportunities between our countries and Georgia will improve both transit and export indicators” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated.
Currently, Georgia and Turkey are connected by the 400 kw power transmission line Meskheti, through which the energy systems of the two countries carry out export-import operations.
Vakhtang Tsintsadze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, and Vano Zardiashvili, General Director of JSC Georgian State Electrosystem, as well as representatives of Turkish energy enterprises attended the meeting with the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.
