Statement of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia
16-08-2017

The information spread via the different media sources regarding the dismissal of the Head of the Georgian National Tourism Administration, Giorgi Chogovadze, is absolutely inconsistence with the reality. Moreover, it is a complete nonsense to somehow connect the faults revealed during the GEM Fest with Giorgi Chogovadze, since the festival has its group of assigned executives and Chogovadze is not among them.

Giorgi Chogovadze is in charge of the National Tourism Administration for almost three years. During this period, Georgia has achieved significant success in the development of the international as well as local tourism. The success was provided by the close cooperation between the different state agencies and private companies engaged in the tourism sectors and the Georgian National Tourism Administration plaid one of the most significant roles in the process. These achievements have revealed new challenges and problems in the tourism sector that require adequate and quick response. In response to these very challenges, we are continuously working with all the agencies involved in the tourism sector to implement the structural as well as conceptual reforms.

Apparently, the dissemination of the misleading information is caused by the extremely active working process in the sector, the record number of tourists visiting Georgia during this tourist season and the newly revealed challenges that need to be solved in the imminent period.

Our team will successfully overcome any challenges and every member of our team, including the Head of the Georgian National Tourism Administration, will contribute to the process.

We would like to strongly emphasize that the intentionally disseminated misleading, false information should not obscure the achievements of the country.
