Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, met with Olzhas Bektenov, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The meeting focused on priority areas of bilateral relations.
The parties discussed a wide range of trade and economic relations between the two countries. The meeting covered bilateral trade, transport and logistics, energy, civil aviation, and tourism sectors. Attention was drawn to the importance of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor and the efforts of the two countries regarding the development of the so-called Middle Corridor. The importance of attracting international cargo to this corridor and the efforts of both governments in this regard were highlighted. The parties discussed infrastructure projects whose progress will contribute to the further development of the Middle Corridor.
It was noted at the meeting that the trade turnover between the countries has been characterized by an increasing dynamic in recent years – in 2024, this indicator increased by 25% compared to the previous year, and exports by 22%. With these figures, Kazakhstan is among Georgia’s top ten trading partners. A similar dynamic continued in 2025 – in January-May, turnover increased by 24%, and exports by 20%. As Mariam Kvrivishvili stated, Kazakhstan is an important trade and economic partner for Georgia. “Exports play an important role in the economies of both countries, and, of course, we are optimistic that the existing frameworks of our partnership will expand even further, and we will see even more Georgian-made products on the Kazakh market” – the Minister noted.
The parties also positively assessed cooperation in the fields of tourism and aviation – it was noted that in 2024, Kazakhstan was sixth in the top ten international visitors to Georgia, and the growth compared to the previous year was 17%. Cooperation in the field of aviation was emphasized – it was stated that 55 flights per week between Georgia and Kazakhstan are approved for this year’s summer navigation season.
Mariam Kvrivishvili highlighted the importance of the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum, which will be held in Georgia’s capital on October 22-23. The Minister expressed hope that the Kazakh side will be represented at the Forum at a high level.
The meeting was held within the framework of the official visit of Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development to Kazakhstan.
Deputy Ministers Genadi Arveladze and Guram Guramishvili, as well as Irakli Meskheli, Georgia’s Chargé d’Affaires ad interim to the Republic of Kazakhstan also attended the meeting.
