Mariam Kvrivishvili Meets with Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Akkenzhenov

Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, held a meeting with Yerlan Akkenzhenov, Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan where the ministers discussed cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector.

A particular emphasis was placed on the transportation of Kazakhstan’s energy resources, especially hydrocarbons, to Europe via the transit infrastructure passing through Georgia.

It was noted that Kazakhstan transports hydrocarbons both through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and via the Batumi oil terminal. This year, a total of 1,5 million tons of crude oil is planned for transportation.

It was stated that Georgia is interested in Kazakhstan transporting more hydrocarbons through Georgia’s transit corridor, and for this purpose, is ready to discuss potential areas of cooperation with the Kazakh side.

The parties also discussed relations between the two countries in the production and transportation of so-called “green electricity”. Kazakhstan is interested in supplying green electricity to the European market and, in this regard, is considering using Georgia’s transmission infrastructure.

The meeting also touched upon the possibility of Kazakh investments in Georgia’s energy sector.

The meeting was held within the framework of the official visit of Mariam Kvrivishvili, Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, to the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.

Deputy Ministers Genadi Arveladze and Guram Guramishvili, as well as Irakli Meskheli, Georgia’s Chargé d’Affaires ad interim to the Republic of Kazakhstan attended the meeting.
