Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Guram Guramishvili, participated in an informational meeting at the Batumi State Maritime Academy. Minister of Education, Science and Youth Givi Mikanadze, British Ambassador to Georgia Gareth Ward, Academy Rector Murtaz Devadze, and the Maritime Transport Agency Director Ivane Abashidze also attended the meeting. During the meeting, the Rector presented the academy’s achievements and future projects.

Deputy Minister highlighted that the seafarer’s profession is popular in Georgia with increasing interest among the younger generation in recent years. This trend, as Guramishvili noted, was encouraged by the government’s reforms in the maritime sector and the sector is attracting new professionals whose high level of expertise is reflected in employment statistics – the professional standards of Georgian seafarers are among the best in the region and stand out across Europe.

The guests toured the academy’s training infrastructure, including the Seafarers’ Training and Certification Center, the training pool, and the engine department laboratories. Special attention was given to the infrastructure of the training center, including the bridge resource management simulator, which fully complies with modern international standards and allows students to undergo practical training in conditions that are as close to reality as possible.

Following the presentation, the parties discussed prospects for deepening future academic cooperation and participating in joint scientific projects.
