Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, met with the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Georgia, Ahmed Ibrahim Ahmed Taher Al Nuaimi and the Regional CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, Abdulaziz Zayed Al Shamsi.

The discussion focused on priority issues of economic relations between the two countries, with special attention given to cooperation in the transport and logistics sector, particularly regarding the Tbilisi Dry Port project. It was noted that projects like the Tbilisi Dry Port help to better position Georgia as a transport and logistics hub in the region and attract additional cargo to the Middle Corridor.

The conversation also covered the future development of the Tbilisi Dry Port. Abu Dhabi Ports Group is the largest investor in the project. It was noted that the project’s development will take place in three phases over a 286 000 m2 territory. The first phase has been completed and is operational, with already implemented investment amounting to 21 million USD.

The productive cooperation between Georgia and the UAE in various other economic sectors was also highlighted. The entry into force of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement had a significant impact on deepening economic relations between the two countries. This agreement allows Georgian producers to export with preferential tariffs, which has positively affected bilateral trade turnover. The conversation also covered further deepening cooperation in sectors such as tourism, civil aviation and energy.

Guram Guramishvili, the Deputy Minister, also attended the meeting.
