Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili met with representatives of the energy sector. The event was organized by the Georgian Renewable Energy Development Association (GREDA) and was attended by the heads of state agencies and private companies along with independent experts.
Mariam Kvrivishvili spoke about the policy of developing the energy sector, updated goals and objectives, accumulated problems and the ways to solve them. Kvrivishvili also expressed her position on the importance of coordinated activities and cooperation between the state and private sectors in this process.
The Minister presented the vision of the Ministry regarding the strategy and action plan for the development of the sector to the representatives, spoke about current and planned projects, and emphasized several important aspects.
“Our current policy is fully aimed at being very active, flexible, transparent, and open so that everyone, and first and foremost the energy sector, develops rapidly and sustainably. In this regard, today we have a clear vision, including a few main directions: mass optimization of energy agencies and their improvement, as well as optimization of planned and ongoing projects. As a result, the saved state resources will be directed toward projects that will strengthen the sector and the country’s energy independence and security” – Mariam Kvrivishvili noted.
The meeting was held in an interactive and the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development emphasized the issue of overdue memorandums and agreements. According to Mariam Kvrivishvili, the ministry is actively working to eliminate problems in this direction and support real investors and developers.
“On behalf of our team and the government, I confirm that the state will be an outstanding supporter of the entire energy sector and the right projects. Together we must ensure their development, which is the path to our energy independence and security. Georgia has quite a large resource, and in addition to taking care of the growth of domestic generation, we also continue to strengthen Georgia as a transit hub” – Mariam Kvrivishvili noted.
During the meeting, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development introduced the updated team to the energy sector: her deputy Inga Pkhaladze and the new heads of the energy agencies.
The First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Nino Enukidze, Chairman of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission Davit Narmania, and Head of the National Statistics Office Gogita Todradze also attended the meeting.
