Inga Pkhakadze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, met with the members of the Mongolian delegation. The Deputy Minister introduced the guests to the existing trends in the energy sector, as well as ongoing and planned investment projects.
As the Deputy Minister stated at the meeting, Georgia, as a member country of the European Energy Community, has been implementing reforms in the energy sector since 2017 Pkhakadze noted that Georgia has achieved significant success in recent years in both reforming the sector and liberalizing the electricity market. She also focused on the strategic Black Sea Submarine Cable project, through which Georgia’s energy system will connect to the European Union’s. The Deputy Minister said this will increase Georgia’s function as an electricity exporter and transit country for the European market. Pkhakadze also emphasized large investment projects that will also have a positive impact on enhancing Georgia’s energy security and the development of the sector.
Members of the Mongolian delegation expressed interest in deepening and strengthening cooperation with Georgia in the energy sector.
The parties emphasized the importance of the partnership and the prospect of future joint initiatives.
Yerene Ulzii Batmankh, Acting State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy of Mongolia, led the delegation. The delegation included representatives of the Parliament of Mongolia, the Ministry of Energy, the Energy Sector Regulatory Commission, transmission and distribution network operators, as well as other representatives of the energy sector.
As part of the visit to Georgia, the Mongolian delegation held meetings with the JSC Georgian State Electrosystem, the Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission, the JSC Electricity Market Operator, the JSC Georgian Energy Exchange, the JSC Energo-Pro Georgia, and the JSC Georgian Energy Development Fund. The Asian Development Bank organized the visit.
