Mariam Kvrivishvili, Met with Korean Ambassador, Hyon Du Kim

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Georgia, Hyon Du Kim. The meeting focused on the priority areas for trade and economic relations between Georgia and the Republic of Korea, with particular attention paid to sectors such as trade, investments, civil aviation, transport, tourism, energy, etc.

The Minister positively assessed the successful conclusion of negotiations with the Korean side on the text of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). It was noted that the signing of the agreement will take place after the completion of domestic state procedures. It was emphasized that the Economic Partnership Agreement between Georgia and the Republic of Korea will not only deepen trade relations but also promote cooperation in investments, information technologies, and other priority sectors. Discussions also touched upon the ongoing negotiations concerning the agreement on the promotion and reciprocal protection of investments.

As noted at the meeting, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) office will be opened in Tbilisi on November 19, which will facilitate cooperation between the two countries aiming at promoting trade and investments.

The Minister also highlighted the importance of launching direct flights between Georgia and the Republic of Korea. It was noted that the operation of charter flights in recent years has contributed to the growth of tourist flows – the number of visitors from the Republic of Korea was increased by 79% in 2024 and by 15% in the first two quarters of 2025.

Deputy Minister Inga Pkhalaadze and the Head of the Ministry’s Trade Development and International Economic Relations Department, Givi Zedelashvili also attended the meeting.
