“Regional energy connectivity remains a strategic priority for Georgia. Being a bridge between Europe and Asia, we are working to strengthen cross-border power trade and grid interconnections. This enhances system resilience, allows for better integration of renewables, and opens new markets for electricity exchange. We believe regional cooperation is essential to overcome common challenges such as supply disruptions and to build a resilient energy system that benefits all” – Inga Pkhaladze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated in her speech at the international forum “Energy for Sustainable Development” (IFESD-14).
The Forum was organized by five UN Regional Commissions and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and hosted by the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources of North Macedonia in the city of Skopje.
As Inga Pkhaladze noted, increasing the share of renewable energy in Georgia’s energy balance is a priority of energy policy. According to the Deputy Minister, Georgia is implementing projects to harness hydro, solar, and wind resources, which helps the country to reduce carbon emissions, strengthen energy security, and create “green” jobs. According to Inga Pkhaladze, programs for implementing energy efficiency measures are also being carried out in energy-intensive sectors.
Within the framework of the Forum, the Deputy Minister held bilateral meetings with the Minister of Energy, Minerals and Mineral Resources of North Macedonia, Sanja Božinovska; the Deputy State Minister of Hungary for EU Affairs and International Relations, Peter Holicza; the Head of the Sustainable Energy Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), Dario Liguti, and others.
