Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Inga Pkhaladze, met with Tommie Joyce, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy. The meeting took place in Athens, Greece, within the framework of the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC).
The meeting addressed issues of potential cooperation between Georgia and the U.S. in ensuring regional and global energy security.
The Deputy Minister spoke in detail about the ongoing developments in Georgia’s energy sector, major energy infrastructure projects, and other topical issues.
The parties focused particular attention on energy security issues stemming from the current processes in the Eurasian space. It was noted that Georgia is a reliable partner for regional energy projects, ensuring the transportation of South Caucasus energy resources, such as oil and gas, to EU markets. Emphasis was also placed on the development of the Green Energy Corridor and Georgia's leading role as one of the central participating countries in this route. “We are also actively involved in the development of the Green Energy Corridor, which will contribute to the strengthening of energy security in both Europe and the South Caucasus region” – Inga Pkhaladze noted.
The parties also discussed opportunities for introducing innovative energy technologies and further developing energy infrastructure in Georgia.
Ekaterine Sisaura, General Director of the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation, Zviad Gachechiladze, Board Member of the Georgian State Electrosystem, Aleksandre Sokhaze, Head of the Energy Policy and Investment Projects Department of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Omar Tsereteli, Deputy Head of the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Policy and Sustainable Development Department and Levan Beridze, Ambassador of Georgia to Greece, also participated in the meeting.
