Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Parviz Shahbazov, who was on a working visit to Tbilisi with a delegation as part of the Green Energy Cable Ministerial hosted by Georgia. The parties discussed priority areas of energy cooperation between the two countries, including topical issues regarding the progress of the flagship project for an energy cable connecting the South Caucasus electricity system to the European network. The ministers once again underlined the strategic importance of the project, which will promote the development of the renewable energy sector and increase opportunities for transit and bilateral trade between the European Union and the South Caucasus region.
It was emphasized at the meeting that the two friendly countries are actively continuing their partnership to achieve common goals of energy security, regional integration, and sustainable development.
Discussions also touched upon the development of electricity infrastructure and water resources between the two countries, as well as further strengthening cooperation in the oil and gas sectors. It was noted that Georgia’s energy capabilities allow for expanded cooperation in the implementation of hydro projects, as well as in the fields of solar, wind, and other non-traditional renewable energy sources. According to the Georgian side, the Government is implementing important programs, including creating an attractive environment for investors in the energy sector.
Alon with Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Deputy Ministers Inga Pkhakadze and Genadi Arveladze, as well as the Head of the Energy Policy and Investment Projects Department of the Ministry, Aleksandre Sokhadze, the General Director of the Georgian State Electrosystem, Vano Zardiashvili, and the General Director of ESCO, Tornike Kazarashvili also participated in the meeting with Parviz Shahbazov held at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.
