Mariam Kvrivishvili Discusses Priorities for Further Cooperation with IMF Mission

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili held a meeting with the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission, Alejandro Hajdenberg.

During the meeting, the parties discussed Georgia’s economic parameters, the main directions of the government’s economic policy, large infrastructure projects, as well as future cooperation between Georgia and the IMF.

Georgia’s macroeconomic characteristics were positively assessed at the meeting. It was noted that the Georgian economy showed significant resilience in 2021-2024, with economic growth reaching 9,7% in 2024, and 7,6% in the first 10 months of 2025. It was also emphasized that both the unemployment rate and employment significantly improved in 2024, and this trend continued in 2025.

Attention was focused on the targeted structural reforms that the Government of Georgia has been successfully implementing in recent years. Significant progress in raising the efficiency of state-owned enterprises was highlighted, specifically, 700 million GEL in annual savings was made as a result of optimization carried out in state-owned enterprises.

Special emphasis was placed on the decisions made towards strengthening the transport and logistics, as well as the energy sectors. Attention was focused on large-scale infrastructure projects, including the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, the railway modernization project, the new Tbilisi airport, and others. The inclusion of the Black Sea Submarine Cable project in the list of Projects of Mutual Interest published by the European Commission was positively evaluated at the meeting.

Deputy Ministers Inga Pkhakadze and Vakhtang Tsintsadze also attended the meeting.
