Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Tamar Ioseliani discussed the prospects of cooperation with the members of the Wizz Air delegation.
The Deputy Minister introduced the guests to the trends in Georgia’s civil aviation industry, as well as the progress of aviation infrastructure projects. According to Tamar Ioseliani, the construction of a new 3500-meter runway and related airfield infrastructure at Kutaisi International Airport is in an active phase. It was noted that the construction of the new runway will support the potential development of a logistics center and a cargo terminal at the airport. Additionally, the airport will be able to receive large (so-called wide-body) aircraft.
As Wizz Air representatives noted, Georgia is a strategic direction for the airline. It was mentioned that at this stage, Wizz Air operates flights from Kutaisi International Airport to 24 destinations in 12 European countries, and from 2026, it will launch flights to a brand-new destination – Bratislava. It was stated that four of the airline’s aircraft are currently based at Kutaisi Airport.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues regarding the further development of Wizz Air’s operations with Georgia.
Director of the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency, Givi Davitashvili, and General Director of the United Airports of Georgia, Levan Moseshvili also attended the meeting.
