Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with the World Bank Regional Director for Infrastructure in Europe and Central Asia, Charles Cormier, and the World Bank Regional Director for the South Caucasus, Rolande Pryce. The parties discussed cooperation issues, including current and future joint projects.
The conversation touched upon several key directions and the special attention was paid to cooperation in the transport sector, which, among other important issues, involves promoting the development of the Middle Corridor, the digitalization of the transport corridor, as well as the significant reforms implemented with the direct support of the World Bank.
Meeting participants deliberated on investments to be implemented in Georgia’s transport infrastructure; a special emphasis was placed on the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project. The Georgian side shared information with World Bank representatives regarding the progress of the project, the investments to be implemented, and the results to be achieved through the port’s development, which involves increasing Georgia’s total annual port throughput capacity by at least 600 thousand containers. The parties also spoke about issues regarding the construction of the railway and motor road leading to the Anaklia port.
One of the important issues discussed by the meeting participants was the progress of the Black Sea submarine cable project. The Georgian side emphasized the active work and progress achieved within the project, including within the framework of World Bank support; they also discussed details related to conducting the Black Sea seabed survey and perspectives for developing cooperation with the Romanian side within the status of bilateral interests.
The Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development, Tamar Ioseliani, Inga Pkhaladze and Vakhtang Tsintsadze, as well as the representatives of the World Bank’s Sustainable Development and Infrastructure program, and the Transport and Multimodal Logistics, also participated in the meeting.
