Tamar Ioseliani, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, introduced Peter Andreoli, representative of the US Department of State’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, to the progress of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project. The US delegation, along with Acting Ambassador Alan Purcell, inspected the construction and mobilization works on-site, which are being carried out by the Belgian company Jan De Nul.
The Deputy Minister introduced the US delegation to the project implementation stages in detail and emphasized its special strategic importance.
Tamar Ioseliani noted that the Anaklia Deep Sea Port represents one of the key projects of Georgia’s transport and logistics infrastructure, which will play an important role in the efficient functioning of the Middle Corridor, strengthening regional connectivity, and positioning the country as a regional hub.
The parties discussed in detail the port’s master plan and the design of the maritime infrastructure, which serves as the basis for the ongoing construction and mobilization works of the port.
Along with maritime infrastructure, the railway sector was also a subject of discussion and it was noted that the railway represents a critical link in the Middle Corridor. Additionally, Tamar Ioseliani introduced the delegation to the planned projects in the railway sector and the large-scale investments being carried out by the state in this direction. Among them is the project for the railway line connecting to Anaklia. These projects together create a multimodal transport system and ensure a significant increase in the corridor’s throughput capacity and operational efficiency.
The meeting was also attended by the heads of Anaklia Deep Sea Port LLC, Georgian Railway JSC, and the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia.
