The 5th meeting of the Georgia-Turkmenistan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was held under the co-chairmanship of Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.
From the Turkmen side, the meeting was co-chaired by Nazar Agahanov, the Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations.
The parties discussed opportunities for deepening bilateral cooperation and further strengthening economic ties. It was noted that Georgia considers Turkmenistan an important and reliable partner in the Central Asian region.
As the Minister stated, due to its strategic location, Georgia serves as a gateway connecting Europe and Asia for Turkmenistan and acts as a vital transit hub for the Central Asian region.
Mariam Kvrivishvili emphasized the country’s macroeconomic indicators, noting that despite global challenges, Georgia maintains one of the most attractive investment environments in the world.
The Minister focused particularly on state investments in Georgia’s primary transport and logistics sectors, aimed at enhancing the country’s role within the Middle Corridor.
It was also mentioned that cooperation in tourism would facilitate the launch of direct flights between the two nations.
Additionally, the expansion of energy cooperation was discussed.
Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tamar Ioseliani, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili, Deputy Head of the Government Administration Ilia Shamugia, Director General of Georgian Railway Lasha Abashidze, and President of Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Giorgi Pertaia also attended the meeting.
