Georgian and Azerbaijani Energy Companies Signed Strategic Cooperation Agreements

Within the framework of the visit of the Georgian government delegation to Azerbaijan, strategic cooperation agreements were signed between the energy companies of Georgia and Azerbaijan. The strategic documents cover a 20-year cooperation between the two countries regarding the purchase and sale of electricity and its transit towards Turkey, as well as the uninterrupted supply of natural gas from Azerbaijan to Georgia. The sides also agreed on utilizing the Georgian section of the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline. The signing ceremony was held during a meeting between the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Tamar Ioseliand, the Deputy Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Anal Akhundov and the President of the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Rovshan Najaf.

The parties discussed issues of cooperation between Georgia and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan. The productive activities of SOCAR in various energy sectors in Georgia were emphasized. Among other topics, attention was focused on energy projects of regional importance, such as the Southern Gas Corridor, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, the Baku-Supsa pipeline, etc.

The parties gave the positive evaluation of the package of strategic agreements signed in the energy sector between the ministers of Georgia and Azerbaijan, which is aimed at deepening economic cooperation between the two countries.
The parties also highlighted the special role of Georgia and Azerbaijan in supplying Europe with gas and ensuring energy security and the commitment to the aforementioned political course was reaffirmed.

It was noted that the signed historical agreements will not only strengthen the economic ties between the two countries, but will also make a significant contribution to the development of the regional energy corridor and will further enhance the role of Georgia as a transit country and a green energy hub.

On the Georgian side, the strategic agreements were signed by Ekaterine Sisauri, General Director of the Oil and Gas Corporation, Vano Zardiashvili, General Director of the State Electrosystem and Tornike Kazarashvili, General Director of the Electricity Market Commercial Operator. Rovshan Najaf, President of SOCAR, and Farhan Aliyev, Executive Director of SOCAR Midstream Operation LLC introduced signatures on the behalf of the Azerbaijani side.
