Inga Pkhaladze Met with Regional Adviser of UN Economic Commission for Europe

Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Inga Pkhaladze, met with Oleg Dziubinski, the Regional Adviser of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The parties discussed ongoing energy projects, Georgia’s challenges in the sector and the opportunities for utilizing renewable energy in the country.

The Deputy Minister spoke about the progress and significance of energy projects, including the Black Sea Submarine Cable and the Green Energy Corridor.

Inga Pkhaladze noted that the integration of Just Transition principles into energy projects is essential, and the state is already working towards developing relevant legislation in this direction.

Co-organized by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia and the UNECE, a meeting under the title Just Transition for All: Developing Georgia’s Just Transition Roadmap for a Sustainable and Carbon-Neutral System will be held on May 28. Within the framework of the meeting, government agencies, companies and various involved organizations will be presented with a study developed by UNECE, which consolidates the needs, opportunities and recommendations for a just transition in the energy sector.

Georgia is a member of UNECE since 1993. In terms of energy development, the country actively cooperates with the Commission to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy, and is involved in various regional initiatives and international projects.
