Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Tamar Ioseliani, met with Ignacio Tirado, Secretary-General of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT), and Anna Veneziano, Deputy Secretary-General.
During the meeting, the parties reviewed current issues of bilateral cooperation and expressed readiness to deepen the partnership between Georgia and UNIDROIT.
One of the main topics of discussion was the progress achieved in the aviation sector. Tamar Ioseliani thanked the UNIDROIT Secretariat for its support in Georgia’s accession process to the Cape Town Convention and the Aircraft Protocol. It was noted that last year, Georgia officially acceded to the Aircraft Protocol, which was made possible through close coordination between the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the Civil Aviation Agency and UNIDROIT.
It was emphasized that a legal framework has been established in Georgia that effectively protects the interests of creditors, lessors, financiers and other stakeholders involved in the aviation sector, thereby enhancing the country's investment attractiveness.
The meeting also focused on the railway transport sector. The importance of the 2007 Luxembourg Railway Protocol to the Cape Town Convention was highlighted in terms of financing rolling stock and developing infrastructure.
The UNIDROIT representatives were also briefed on the Government's vision for the development of Georgia’s transport sector, planned investments in transport infrastructure, as well as future plans for modernizing railway rolling stock.
