44% Passenger Traffic Increase Recorded in Georgian Airports During 11 Months

The LEPL Civil Aviation Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia announces that during the 11 months of this year, Georgian airports, via regular and charter flights, served 3 816 538 passengers, which is by 44.48% higher number compared to the same period of the previous year (2 641 539 passengers).

During the first 11 months of 2017, the Tbilisi International Airport served 2 943 417 passengers, which is by 40.89 % higher indicator compared to the number of people served during the same period of 2016.

Batumi International Airport served 484 527 passengers during the 8 months of this year, which is by 59.11% (180 012 passengers) higher indicator compared to the same period of previous year (304 515 passengers).

Passenger traffic at the Kutaisi International Airport is increased by 55.80%. During the 11 months of 2016, it served 243 918 passengers while during the same period of this year, the passenger traffic volume reached 380 passengers (increased by 136 108 passengers);

Regarding the local destination airports, the data is as follows: the Mestia Airport served 6 881 passengers during the 11 months of this year, which is by 2 899 people or 72.80% higher number compared to the same period of 2016 (3 982 passenger); the Ambrolauri Airport has received passengers for the first time this year and their number already reached 1 687 from the middle of January until the end of November.

In first 11 months of 2017, the number of flights conducted at Georgian airport is also increased. Total number of conducted flights (passenger and freight) is increased by 5 399. The data is as follows: passenger and freight flights equaled to 19 496 flights with 16 538 regular flights and 2 958 charter flights. Compared to the same period of 2016, the increase is 38.30%.  

Usage of the Georgian air space is increased by 12.93%. In the first 11 months of 2016, the number of overflights totaled to 117 549, while this year this number in the same period reached 132 747 flights.

According to the data of 11 months of 2017, the growth compared to 2016 was also recorded in terms of freight transportation. The volume of the cargo transported by air is 29 895.652 tons, which is by 547 tons higher number compared to the cargo transported during the same period of the previous year.
