Genadi Arveladze Held Meeting With New Zealand Ambassador to Georgia

On 13 December, 2017, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Genadi Arveladze held a meeting with the Ambassador of New Zealand to Georgia, H.E. Mary Thurston.

Genadi Arveladze provided the Ambassador with the detailed information regarding the attractive business and investment environment in Georgia as well as the 4-point plan of reforms initiated by the Government of Georgia aimed at promoting of the economic growth, structural recovery of the economy and the further improvement of the business environment, which, in turn, implies the improvement of the infrastructure, education reform, creation of professional education centers within the public-private partnership (PPP) targeting the requirements, the governance reform, etc.

The Deputy Minister underlined the importance of the tourism sector as one of the leading branches of Georgia’s economy and the strategy of the Government developed in this direction, which is aimed at increasing the number of visitors to Georgia up to 11 million people by 2025. The mutual interest in strengthening bilateral relations in the sphere of tourism and intention to sign the relevant Memorandum of Cooperation was confirmed at the meeting as well.

Prospect of cooperation in the tourism sector was also discussed during the meeting. In this regard, the Deputy Minister expressed interest to share the best experience on initiatives (reforms) implemented by the New Zealand Government and their positive results.

Since the bilateral trade and economic relations between Georgia and New Zealand is insignificant at this stage, the parties expressed interest to sign the economic agreement that will create a legal basis for the development and enhancing of the trade, economic and investment cooperation.
