Dimitry Kumsishvili Participated in Opening Ceremony of New HPP Construction

First Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Dimitry Kumsishvili participated in the official opening ceremony of the construction of the Bodorna Hydroelectric Power Plant. The first Vice Prime Minister, together with the representatives of Georgian Water and Power and other honorable guests, laid down a symbolic capsule at the foundation of the HPP construction site. The new plant will be built in Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, Dusheti Municipality.

In his speech Dimitry Kumsishvili spoke about the importance of the energy independence of the country and underlined that the new hydro power plant is ecologically-friendly, so called Green Hydroelectric Power Plant, which has minimal impact on the environment. As the first Vice Prime Minister noted, “The construction of HPP is very important in several regards: it implies new investments and new jobs in the construction process and after its completion. In the end, the Bodorna HPP will provide continuous power supplies for the headworks that supply the capital with drinking water.”

Georgian Water and Power will construct the Bodorna HPP, for which the company will invest 10 million GEL. The installed capacity of the hydro power plant is 2.5 MW, and the average annual output - 15 mln kWh / h. More than 50 people are employed in the project implementation process.

During the HPP construction process, electric mechanical turbines and the generator will be manufactured by the leading Austrian company in the production of hydrocarbons, GUGLER. Georgian companies such as Pyramid and Georgian Water Project will implement the design and construction works of the HPP. 

Construction process will be supervised by one of the world's leading companies Stucky SA. Georgian Water and Power Plant will finance the HPP constructions with a part of long-term loan from the Netherlands Development Bank (FMO) and the German Investment and Development Society (DEG).

Construction of the new Green HPP, which will serve as a part of the Unified Energy System of Georgia, will be completed in September 2018.
