Georgia’s Mountain Resorts Enjoy 491% Increase of Tourist Flow Since 2012

Mountain Resorts Development Company of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia has finished the 2017/2018 mountain ski season. In 2017-2018, the number of visitors is increased by 25% compared to the winter ski season of 2016-2017.

It is also noteworthy that in recent years the number of local and international tourists has significantly increased in the mountain resorts of Gudauri, Bakuriani, Svaneti and the resort of Goderdzi. In 2011/2012 - 2017/2018, the number of tourists increased by 491% on all ski resorts (Gudauri, Bakuriani, Goderdzi, Svaneti).

The maintenance of current statistics became possible by installing contactless check points by the Austrian company of Skidata, which allows to accurately calculate the number of visitors. This system operates on all four ski resorts of Georgia.

In the resort of Gudauri, 345 997 visitors were observed in 2017/2018, which is 25% higher compared to previous year.

As for Bakuriani, according to the statistical data of 2017-2018, the number of visitors has increased by 15% compared to 2016- 2017. As it turned out, 132 704 visitors visited the resort in the season of 2017/2018.

In mountainous Adjara, where the resort of Goderdzi has been hosting the guests for the third year already, according to the winter ski season statistics of 2017/2018, the number of visitors has increased by 129% compared to previous year. In the current season, 10 283 visitors resided at the resort of Goderdzi.

In Svaneti, during the ski season of 2017/2018, the number of visitors increased by 122% at Tetnuldi whereas the ski resort of Hatsvali welcomed 119% more visitors compared with the same period of the previous year. In total, the ski resorts of Tetnuldi and Hatsvali were visited by 35 890 visitors in 2017/2018.
