Eighth Session of Georgia-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation

First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitry Kumsishvili and the Foreign Trade Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Jamshid Khodjaev signed the protocol of the eighth session of Georgia-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation.

The document defines the main directions of the economic cooperation between Georgia and Uzbekistan in such sectors as bilateral trade, investments, tourism, energy, transport and logistics, communication, information technology, etc. The Commission focused on launching of the direct flights between Georgia and Uzbekistan. It was noted that the Uzbekistan will actively work in this direction to resolve the issue positively until the end of the year. It was noted that direct flights will facilitate the cooperation in tourism sector and will link the business circles of the countries.

Prospects of increasing the cargo turnover via railway and motor transport between the countries as well as in terms of transit were also discussed during the conversation. 

Document on cooperation between the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Georgia and Uzbekistan was also signed within the framework of the session.

The session of the bilateral intergovernmental commission was held within the official visit of the Uzbekistan Government delegation. The delegation headed by Foreign Trade Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Jamshid Khodjaev has held meetings at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia as well as the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture. The delegation also got familiar with the work of the House of Justice of Tbilisi. Tomorrow, the delegation will take part in the Georgia-Uzbekistan Business Forum, which is being held for the first time. Several dozen of large business representatives will participate in the Forum from Georgia. The Forum will be held in B2B format.
