Wiz Air’s second modern aircraft of A320 type based in the Kutaisi Davit Aghmashenebeli International Airport becomes operational since today. The First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitry Kumsishvili, the Director of the JSC United Airports of Georgia, Ketevan Aleksidze and the Chief Marketing Officer of the Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air, Johan Eidhagen also attended the relevant event. The Kutaisi-based aircraft will provide regular flights to Spain, France, Czech Republic, Italy and Greece.

The company will fly to five new directions: Paris, Rome, Prague, Barcelona and Athens. Today the ceremony of the arrival of the first flight from Paris to Kutaisi was held at the airport. Wizz Air also increases frequencies from Kutaisi to Berlin and Dortmund.

Dimitry Kumsishvili noted that these directions are very important and also noted, that “except direct flights that increase tourism and allows our and not only them to travel at a very attractive prices to Europe, new flights will also result in creation of direct and indirect jobs. Up to this day, Wizz Air has invested 100 million USD in Georgia via one of the aircrafts based here, and since the second aircraft is to be base here starting today, it means that the company’s investments in Georgia have already reached 200 million USD. I would like to point out that the company has created 70 direct and 250 indirect jobs and the second aircraft will generate another 37 new jobs”.

Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air has started operating from the Kutaisi International Airport in 2012. Since March 2018, Wizz Air has started direct flights from Kutaisi to Riga and Wroclaw. Starting this summer, direct flights will be launched between Georgia and Romania. 

Hungarian low-cost Wizz Air will launch the Bucharest-Kutaisi flights from July 3, and on November 15, the direct flights to Austria will be implemented through Vienna-Kutaisi flights. The leading low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, will carry out flights from Kutaisi International Airport in 20 destinations of 14 European countries.

Dimitry Kumsishvili also spoke about the importance of airplane bases at Georgian airports. “We are happy to have based aircrafts in Georgia since Georgian mineral water, Georgian drinking water, Georgian wine, food and other products get on the boards. At the same time the crews and the staff are fully accomplished by Georgian citizens. Only Wizz Air carried over 222,000 passengers last year and 111,000 passengers in the first four months of this year. Last year we had 43% growth regarding the airports while the growth is 34% this year. 

This means the growth of our economy, this means new jobs and maximum promotion of the tourism development,” – Dimitry Kumsishvili said.
